Fragments, recollections, spoken narrative (my voice,
aged 10, and 21)
Features on the CD New
Zealand Sonic Art 2000.
"Speak Volumes" blurs fragments of memories with real-time
“documentary” tapes. The piece attempts to comment on the
nature of memory – illusive and distorted, but at the same time
of immense importance to our sense of identity – an anchor of
the past and a compass with which to map the future. We shape our memory
as we like, and in turn are shaped by it. The tapes are taken from a
“radio” show I recorded age ten.
