Miriama Young
is a composer and sound artist, writer and scholar.
Originally
from New Zealand, Miriama was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship
to pursue graduate study in the United States, and she recently
completed her PhD in Music Composition at Princeton University.
In November she will take up a position as Lecturer in Music at
the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, UK.
Miriama's
work thrives on collaboration with artists in complementary disciplines,
and her music spans a variety of genre and media - from chamber
music for voice and instrumental ensemble, spoken word sound art
for radio, to electronic music for dance. As a vocalist, she composes
songs for her voice, and these feature on her forthcoming debut
album (December 2007).
Her dissertation,
Singing the Body Electric: The Recorded Voice, the Mediated
Body examines the human voice, the mediated body, and the
sound of its transformation through technology.
