First Street Gallery, Trinidad, Colorado July 21 - August 6, 2006
Inside/Out is a site-specific interactive audiovisual installation;
its first iteration was created in and for Trinidad, Colorado using
sounds and images gathered in the city. Inside Out works as a real-time
audio mixer controlled by the movement of people's shadows upon a video
projection. As visitors walk in front of a projector, the shadows they
cast on the projection activate and control the work's soundtrack,
engaging visitors in a choreography mediated by sound and creating a sense of
community within the space of the work. The central theme of the work is the
magical assumption of a 'shadow identity' and the social and sonic exploration
this affords. Many thanks go to Perry Cook for helping this piece become a reality.
