BURBLE (2006)
Bamboo, water, pump, hydrophone, stones, laptop, headphones.

Burble is an amplified active bamboo water fountain, an oasis that allows up to three people to play with its watery sounds. The sounds are created by an underwater microphone that sends the burbling underwater sounds to a hidden laptop. Inside the laptop, custom-designed software applies resonating filters to the burbling, giving each of three channels a pitch. Two players can change the pitches (and volumes) of the sounds by turning knobs located opposite one another on the fountain. Another player can mix in the sounds of birds and thunder as desired. Burble encourages participants to listen to and improvise musically, as well as to relax into the flow of the fountain.
