Storytelling

The stories of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zanes Dance Company

This week we'll look at the intersection of autobiography and creativity, with a special focus on choreographer Bill T. Jones, whose work with non-artists (and artists) living with terminal illness resulted in an evening-long work called "Still/Here." In creating the work, Jones collaborated with a group in each city where the work was performed, and the individuals involved performed along with Jones's company. "Still Here" met with intense reactions from those who saw it, and even from those who didn't. Dance critic Arlene Croce refused to see it but critiques its premise; this in turn inspired an entire book of responses, some of which we'll read.
