Miriama Young composes for voice, instruments and electronics, and her music moves freely between media.

Much of her work playfully glides and elides distinctions of musical genre. Some projects involve interdisciplinary collaboration, and include works for radio, spoken poetry projects, and interactive electro-acoustic music for dance. She composes songs for her voice, and these feature on her forthcoming debut album (September 2008).

As writer and scholar, Singing the Body Electric: The Recorded Voice, the Mediated Body examines the human voice, the mediated body, and the sound of its transformation through technology.

Originally from New Zealand, Miriama recently took up a Lecturership in Music at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, UK. In 2000 she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to pursue graduate study in the United States, and gained her PhD in Music Composition at Princeton University (2007).
