SIX FOR SEVEN (1999, 2006) For piano and five other instrumentalists; premiered by the Now Ensemble (pictured, left). Six for Seven is an early piece of mine consisting of seven musical cells that grow in an obsessively asymmetric manner and then gradually dissipate. It is a true collaboration with the performers, in that each of them comes up with their own riffs in response to the piano cells that are given to them. The piece originated as a solo prepared piano piece and was also played in a more improvisational context; this is its premiere in its present form, with some slight revisions. 14 minutes, 29 seconds right-click or control-click HERE to download file |
